Linda's holiday in the Vaucluse
At the beginning of August, our colleague Linda and her family travelled to Villes sur Auzon, in the beautiful department of Vaucluse. They stayed in a charming holiday home from Basic Travel, the F84.177, located at the foot of Mont Ventoux, surrounded by vast vineyards and offering breathtaking views. Would you like to know more about Linda's stay and her holiday stories? Then read on!
Linda about her holiday:
"At the beginning of August, I left with my family for Villes sur Auzon in the Vaucluse department.
Our house with a swimming pool is located at the foot of Mont Ventoux, surrounded by vineyards, and the view is phenomenal. The temperatures were extremely high during the weeks we were there, so we made full use of the swimming pool. We even lay on our air mattresses in the pool around midnight, gazing up at the endless starry sky! We also saw several shooting stars. During the day, we also enjoyed the beautiful nature and surrounding villages. We highly recommend the Gorges de la Nesque gorge with its breathtaking views. If you look closely, you can even spot Egyptian vultures with their gigantic nests! If it hadn't been 38 degrees, we would have wanted to spend the whole day there!
Along the way, the landscapes are varied and very wooded. Many car parks were closed as a precaution due to the extremely high risk of forest fires, which was a very wise decision! Climbing Mont Ventoux by bike is a bucket list item for many people. Of course, we also went up to the top, which at 1,912 metres offers beautiful views and equally beautiful vistas. Even if you are not a cyclist or mountain biker, you must visit Mont Ventoux once in your life. The whole region breathes cycling, especially the town of Bedoin, which is very nice with a biker's café and many other pleasant terraces where many cyclists enjoy a well-deserved beer. The walled city of Avignon, with the largest Gothic building in Europe, the Palais des Papes, is also truly impressive. In my opinion, it is more impressive than the “half” world-famous Pont d'Avignon. The town of Orange is really charming with its colourful houses, but it is especially special because of its Roman theatre, whose stage building is still almost intact. You have to see it!
In addition to all the beautiful towns, restaurants and impressive natural beauty, we also thoroughly enjoyed ourselves on the terrace of our house with delicious barbecues, fine local wines, games and we even watched Feyenoord play on the laptop! The swimming pool also provided wonderful refreshment during the many pleasant evenings.
We enjoyed the region, delicious food, excellent wines, friendly French people and the beautiful nature! But above all, because both of my now adult children came with us, we made wonderful memories!"
