Discover Umbria with Alessia: travel experiences and tips
Last year, our colleague Alessia took an inspection trip to Umbria, a region she loves. She spent a week visiting various Basic Travel properties and exploring the region. From bustling Perugia to the famous Eurochocolate event, it was a week full of impressions and tasty experiences. Curious about Alessia's personal tips and recommendations for an unforgettable vacation in Umbria? Then read on!
'Last October, I spent a week in beautiful Umbria visiting some of Basic Travel's properties. Although it was a work trip, returning to Italy always feels like coming home to me. After living in the Netherlands for many years, I often miss my homeland and family, so it was all the more wonderful to be back in my favorite place.
What makes Umbria so special are the green hills and charming villages steeped in history and culture. Walking through the small towns, it feels as if time has stood still. Here, you can escape the hustle and bustle of modern life and enjoy pure tranquility. The local shops selling handmade products are a delight to discover: it's always nice to take something unique home with you.
During my trip, I visited Perugia, the capital of the region, again and the famous ‘Eurochocolate’ for the first time. This chocolate event takes place this year from November 14 to 23, 2025, and is the perfect opportunity to discover the city and indulge in delicious chocolate.
I also visited a number of vacation homes that I can recommend. For a couple or family of four, the house in Collazzone I60.070 is ideal: quiet, green, yet centrally located for exploring the area. For groups of four to six people, the villa in Pilonico Paterno I60.045 is perfect. Surrounded by greenery, with a garden and swimming pool, it is close to both Perugia (15 km) and Assisi (12 km).
A trip to Lake Trasimeno is a must. Italy's fourth largest lake is surrounded by hills and olive groves, with three islands to explore and countless opportunities for boat trips, cycling, or hiking along the Ciclovia del Trasimeno.
An additional advantage of vacation homes in Umbria is their convenient location for exploring the surrounding regions such as Tuscany, Lazio, and Marche. This region offers endless possibilities for a varied vacation!
