ACCOMMODATION AND LOCATION Holiday home in the wing of a large castle in the village of Schmidtheim. The same family has owned the castle since 1511. The old "administrative centre" of the domain, "Le vieux Bureau" (The Old Office), has recently been converted into this cottage. The house consists of two sections linked by means of a short passage on the exterior. The courtyard has a large terrace and an extensive private lawn. Outside the castle walls, about 20 meters from the entrance, there is a walled, "wild" garden with an ancient lime tree. It is possible to dine in the castle wine cellar. Reservations should be made a week in advance. The castle is located on the edge of a wood with nature reserve, making it an ideal place for walking. Schmidtheim is located in the Eifel region of Germany, east of Malmédy and south of Aachen. There are plenty of opportunities for sport in the vicinity. There is the possibility of kart racing and downhill skiing in the area. In the vicinity there are several possibilities for excursions, such as the caves of Kakusholle, the fortified town of Bad Mustereifel and the town of Kommern with its open-air museum.
