ACCOMMODATION AND LOCATION Detached, very nicely restored ex-farmstead, dating partly to 1650. The house is very peacefully located, has a large plot of 2 hectares and you have a wonderful view over the woods and the mountains. The house belonged originally to a ‘Schlitter’, a wood-cutter who transported wood from the hills on his sled, often in great danger for his life. You can find many hiking trails from the house and in the wide surroundings. The village of Le Saulcy is at the edge of the very vast Forêt de Donon (the Donon is a mountain peak that is 1009 m high), a region of virgin woods and hills. Le Saulcy is about 10 km east of the lively town of Senones, east of Nancy and north east of Saint-Dié. You can go to Senones for most groceries and to Moussey for bread and simple groceries. There is also a lot to do for people who want to visit a lot of sites on their vacation: nice places like Gérardmer, Remiremont and Epinal towards the south, as well as the ski area of la Bresse; to the east is the beautiful town of Nancy with its Place Stanislas, placed on the UNESCO list of protected cities; the beautiful lake of Lac de Pierre Percée, nicely located between woods and hills; to the east is the Alsace with beautiful cities like Strasbourg, Colmar and many lively villages like Kaysersberg, Riquewihr and Turckheim; the mighty castle of Haut Koenigsbourg; the wonderful natural park of the Ballons d'Alsace. Recreational lake: Lac de Pierre Percée at 30 km. Ski : Champ de Feu (15 km), La Bresse (45 km). THE COLS OF THE VOSGES In the Vosges the sporting cyclist can enjoy him/herself and test his or her form. Within a small area east of Gérardmer you will find a number of beautiful and famous cols, like the Col de la Schlucht (17 km long, 1.100 m high), the Markstein (20 km long, 1.200 m high), the Petit Ballon (12 km long, 1.150 m high) and the Grand Ballon (13 km long, 1.350 m high). The beautiful, green landscapes and the beautiful views together with the smooth, not very steep cols cause this area to be a wonderful challenge for every sporting cyclist.
